For over 100 years, NTE has produced clean, renewable energy and contributed to the electrification of Trøndelag. As a leading player in hydropower and wind power, and with investments in digital infrastructure such as fiber and broadband, we are committed to developing solutions that strengthen both local communities and the environment – today and for future generations.

Sustainability is an integrated part of our business strategy. We work systematically to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect biodiversity, and contribute to social and economic development in the region. Our work is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and follows the requirements of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

NTE consists of the parent company and four subsidiaries. We work systematically with sustainability across the entire value chain – both upstream and downstream, and within our own operations – and comply with the requirements of the EU Sustainability directive. NTE was among the first Norwegian companies to report in accordance with the new EU Sustainability directive (CSRD) for the year 2024. Our climate accounting is based on the GHG Protocol and accounts for Scope 1, 2 and 3, with 44% of the data from activity-based sources. Our largest sources of emissions are electricity sales, fiber expansion, and construction activities.
Our power plants are located in areas of high natural value. We take responsibility for reducing our environmental impact through careful operations, environmental monitoring, and collaboration with local stakeholders. Our ambition is to produce energy in balance with nature.

In line with the Norwegian Transparency Act, we conduct due diligence assessments to identify and manage risks related to human rights violations and decent working conditions in our supply chain. We set requirements for our suppliers and partners and follow up with dialogue and measures where necessary.

The UN Global Compact commits to promoting positive and sustainable change in human rights, labor rights, the environment, and anti-corruption. With its scope and reach, the UN Global Compact is considered the world’s largest initiative for sustainable business. We at NTE support this work.

Social sustainability and local value creation
We are owned by 19 municipalities in the erstwhile Nord-Trøndelag County, and our social responsibility starts locally. We invest in projects that strengthen education, health, and culture, and we work to ensure that the transition to a green economy is fair and inclusive.
We are committed to contributing to a fair and inclusive workplace and pay transparency.
